Honorable Mention - Inanimate 48 2021

Created April 18th, 2021

I am a mover that traverses between the worlds of pole and post-modern dance and am exploring how these two forms collide and co-exist in my body.

In Releasing Technique(s), I research the friction between the bound muscularity of pole dancing and my training of releasing my body weight into the floor, but now in the sky. I am deeply inspired by the virtuosity and alien experience of seeing a body move through the air. I aim to distort the viewer’s experience and their understanding of how gravity is imposed on the body through the careful framing of physical material in this work.

I hope you leave this visual experience released of an understanding of time, space, gravity, the body, and the technique(s) that bind it.
